Sugar Addiction Recovery: Not Bound By the Numbers

Sugar Addiction Recovery

Day #13

I believe a very important step to sugar addiction recovery is not being all consumed with the numbers on the scale.  If we focus only on the numbers of the scale, we can lose focus of God.  We can lose focus on true health.  We can lose focus on what really matters: nourishing foods, fitness, spiritual growth, and relationships.  This is an area I love to help others come to peace within their journey.  Some would consider it a flaw.  I think it is a victory.

How would you like to get on the scale, see a number that doesn’t impress you, and not let it ruin your day?  I am not perfect.  I still have my days that the number on the scale can define me temporarily.  The numbers on the scale are not the ideal numbers that I have in my mind.  I have goals to decrease that number, but I remind myself I have not went above the ten pound fluctuation I am in for the last ten years.  Okay, I did go above this ten pound fluctuation twice – during pregnancies.  This is where the topic of a weight set point can become part of the discussion.  Although, I will leave that discussion for another day

Today, I would like you to get on the scale.  Look at the number on the scale.  Praise God that those numbers do NOT define you!  You are a precious child of God.  He loves you at any number.  Any size.  He praises you for caring for your body, too.  Seek greatness and health for him…not for a number.

With giving up sugar, you may or may not lose weight.  If you give up other processed foods and more foods that process into sugar, you increase your odds of weight loss.  Take the baby steps you need.  I am.  No sugar, except fruit, for four days.  My mom even had my favorite ice cream last evening.  I resisted by reminding myself “I am made for more.”
