Sugar Addiction Recovery: Are you Ready to Detox?

Sugar Addiction Recovery

Day #11

Tomorrow, I will do a full in or a phase in to the sugar detox.  Yesterday, our family took a little day trip and I indulged a little.  Remember my mention of 80/20 balance?  I feel like I did okay, but I could have done better.  Today, I am not eating any processed carbs or added sugars.  I will have potatoes with a meal, because I want to use up the last ones we have here.  They are going to be going bad, if I don’t.  I will probably eat an apple. Have you begun to cut back your consumption of sugar, processed foods, and caffeine?  This will help with less severe withdrawal symptoms come Monday.

Today, I think it is great timing to read chapter 5 of “Made to Crave.”  Lysa shares how deeply we are “made for more”:

“We were made for more than this.  More than this failure, more than this cycle, more than being ruled by taste buds.  We were made for victory.  Sometimes we just have to find our way to that truth.”

Who can say “Amen!” with me?  YOU were made for more!  Think about it.  Think about a time you were going through something tough in life.  Did you pray more?  Did you seek God in your hopelessness, worry, and/or desperation?  I know I do.  Why is eating any different?  Why not take our sugar addiction to God?  The connection that Lysa makes that I love, is that, do you know what this really means?

“The more we operate in the truth of who we are and the reality that we were made for more, the closer to God we’ll become.” ~ Lysa Terkeurst, “Made to Crave”

This sugar addiction can be used to draw you closer to God!

Dear Lord, I have taken this cycle before.  Each time I make this U-turn, I get closer to victory.  Lord, I want to be closer to you.  Would you nudge truth into the deepest of my soul when I yearn for food and not you?  I know I was made for more.  Help me to truly believe this truth.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
