As I mentioned last Thursday, I am going to be discussing “Made to Crave” this month. Sugar addiction is at the core of cravings for many of us, including me. In chapter one, Lysa Terkeurst discusses how we are wired to crave. God created us to crave. Read Psalm 84:1-2. We are to greatly crave. Crave God! So how can the enemy, Satan, distract us from craving God? He distracts us through the cravings of a sinful man, the lust of his eyes, and the boasting of what he has or does according to 1 John 2:15-16. Lysa points out to us that God tempted Eve in all three of these areas prior to the Fall by eating the forbidden fruit. He also tempted Jesus in the desert, in the holy city, and on the very high mountain. However, God rebuked Satan by speaking truth. So, how do you feel about using the Truth to rebuke our unhealthy behaviors? The verse that Lysa uses frequently is a great one.
“Everything is permissible’ – but not everything is beneficial.” ~ 1 Corinthians 10:23
As you consider joining me in a detox of sugar, starting next Monday, will you consider this verse? Will you ponder the idea of using truth to rebuke the cravings?
